Blinken’s High-Stakes Mission: Can He Broker a Gaza Ceasefire and Hostage Swap?
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who arrived in the region on Sunday, is scheduled to visit Egypt on Tuesday. His goal is to advance discussions for a ceasefire in Gaza, which would involve the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, as announced by the U.S. State Department.
During his visit, Blinken will engage with Egyptian officials, and stalled talks are expected to resume in Cairo next week, according to State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel. The U.S., Egypt, and Qatar are acting as mediators in the negotiations between Israel and Hamas, who have been in conflict in Gaza since October 7.
