On Wednesday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres labeled the attacks in Beirut and Tehran, which resulted in the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya, as a “severe escalation,” according to his spokesperson.

Stefan Dujarric told reporters, “The Secretary-General views the incidents in southern Beirut and Tehran as a significant escalation at a time when efforts should be concentrated on achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, securing the release of Israeli hostages, boosting humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, and restoring stability in Lebanon and along the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel.”
