Google has decided to backtrack on its initiative to remove third-party cookies from its Chrome browser, following objections from advertisers who rely on these cookies for user tracking.

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, introduced the "Privacy Sandbox" in 2019 with the primary goal of gradually phasing out third-party cookies.

Anthony Chavez, Deputy Head of the initiative, announced in a blog post on Monday: "Instead of blocking third-party cookies, we will introduce a new approach in Chrome that allows users to choose their browsing preferences, with the flexibility to adjust these settings at any time."
